A FEW OF THE MOST RECENT ITEMS WE WANT...
 | DAVID BOWIE David Bowie (Rare 1969 UK black & silver label
9-track stereo vinyl LP, generally regarded as the first Bowie
album proper, featuring Space Oddity & the early masterpiece
Cygnet Committee, gatefold matte picture sleeve. See 'More
Info' for condition details of this legendary collectable Bowie
record... SBL7912)
Tracklisting: More Information
What we have here is one of the most sought after worldwide David Bowie collectables - the original pressing of what is generally regarded as the first Bowie album proper, performed by Bowie and a cast of uncredited 'Friends' including Herbie Flowers, Rick Wakeman, Moody Blues bassist John Lodge and [on 'Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud'] Mick Ronson.
Despite this stellar line-up and the success of the 'Space Oddity' single, the album was a commercial failure, hence its scarcity today - it would be reissued in 1972 by RCA, but with a new title and an alternate sleeve.
This original gatefold sleeve design features an image of Bowie on the front based on Hungarian-born artist Victor Vasarely's piece 'CTA 25 Neg', with George Underwood's drawing 'The Depth Of The Circle' on the reverse illustrating aspects of the album's lyrics. The lyrics themselves are printed across the centre of the gatefold.
This is an item that defines 'rare'. They just don't come along very often.
Condition
Due to its matt finish, the sleeve has succumbed to edge scuffing & storage wear in its time but nothing that stands in the way of the fantastic artwork. The spine has some minor wear with minimal loss of print. There is some discolouring creeping in from the top edges, with faint circular crease to front, and a small biro '2' to the back. This is a one owner copy & the sleeve still achieves a Very Good grade.
The labels are black & silver design, with some light marks around the spindle marks, with 1Y/2 / 2Y/2 machine stamped matrices.
The vinyl has been professionally cleaned and grades Excellent, with only minimal signs of wear not affecting the performance. We have play graded the disc & sound wise, this example is sure to delight, with minimal background noise in the silent areas and between the tracks.
Overall, this is a lovely collector's copy at a competitive price & one that no Bowie collection is complete without.
